Whanake Māori Industry events

The Whanake Māori Industry events were held in Tāmaki Makaurau – Auckland (April 2024) and Kirikiriroa – Hamilton, Waikato (June 2024) as part of Hanga-Aro-Rau’s ongoing kaupapa to uplift and support Māori workforce development in the manufacturing, engineering, and logistics (MEL) sectors.

These regionally focused hui brought together Māori industry leaders, iwi representatives, government agencies, education providers, and rangatahi advocates to strengthen connections across the vocational and employment ecosystem. The events provided dedicated spaces for kōrero grounded in Te Ao Māori, enabling stakeholders to explore how Māori values, leadership, and lived experience can shape the future of work.

Each event focused on fostering collaboration between Māori communities and industry, amplifying Māori perspectives, and identifying opportunities to better support Māori participation and progression in the manufacturing, engineering and logistics sectors. The events reflect our commitment to ensuring that Māori are not only present in these industries, but thrive as leaders, innovators, and drivers of economic growth.

Panelist information

Both Whanake Māori Industry events featured a powerful line-up of panelists representing Māori industry, government, and future workforce perspectives. Their kōrero helped shape the discussions and reflect the diversity of experience across the Māori workforce ecosystem.
