We are excited to announce that our new micro-credential – Trades Essentials – is now live on the New Zealand Qualifications and Credentials Framework. This much-anticipated micro-credential has been developed in partnership with Waihanga Ara Rau, industry and providers, to provide introductory skills for people preparing to enter the engineering or construction trades.

Trades Essentials will play an important part in addressing skill shortages and workforce demands, particularly in supporting large-scale infrastructure projects such as the new Dunedin Hospital build. It’s something that we have worked hard with industry to develop, and we are confident that there will be strong demand once providers gain NZQA accreditation to deliver it.

This micro-credential will include the following introductory skills:

• Interpersonal skills for the trades
• Rights and responsibilities of an employee working in the trades
• Personal development for the engineering and construction trades
• Practical trades toolkit (including Health and Safety)
