Hanga-Aro-Rau is proud to welcome Richard Templer, PhD (Mech Eng) FEngNZ, to our Industry Stakeholder Group (ISG).

Richard has been the Chief Executive of Te Ao Rangahau Engineering New Zealand since November 2020, bringing over two decades of senior executive experience across government, local government, and the meat and wool industry. His career began in research, focusing on meat automation at Industrial Research and medical products at Fisher & Paykel Healthcare.

An innovative and strategic leader with deep expertise in commercial, industry, and government sectors, Richard will be a valuable addition to our ISG, particularly during the current redesign of Aotearoa New Zealand’s Vocational Education and Training system.

He has successfully led large business units, managed significant strategic industry and Crown investments, and driven transformative change through new strategies. His experience spans complex multi-party research projects, from development and bidding to negotiation and delivery. Richard is also highly skilled in stakeholder management, working effectively with clients, industry leaders, ministries, and Ministers.

His broad perspective and hands-on leadership style have made a lasting impact on the sectors he has served, and Hanga-Aro-Rau is grateful to have him on board.
