New Council member sought as Hanga-Aro-Rau farewells Carla Seymour-Mansell June 30th, 2022 At their May 2022 meeting, the Hanga-Aro-Rau Council sadly accepted the resignation of Council member Carla Seymour-Mansell, effective immediately. Ms Seymour-Mansell was a passionate driver behind the creation of Hanga-Aro-Rau from the get-go and we acknowledge and thank her deeply for her mahi. _______________________________________________ Haere taka mua, taka muri; kaua e whai. Be a leader, not a follower. The Hanga-Aro-Rau Council is now seeking an exceptional leader to join their governance group. The Hanga-Aro-Rau Workforce Development Council is responsible for leading and overseeing the work programme. All Council members must act consistently within their statutory mandate and with any arrangements set out in Hanga-Aro-Rau’s Order in Council (OIC). Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: providing clear vision and leadership for their WDC overall responsibility for their WDC’s functions as set out in the Education and Training Act 2020; and additional functions and purpose as set out in the OIC overseeing the performance of the Chief Executive and other staff within their WDC financial oversight and risk management, including ensuring that their WDC’s financials are systematically accounted for, audited and publicly available health, safety and legal obligations, including that all the legislative requirements of directors and entities are met overall responsibility for ensuring their WDC meets its obligations as an employer. Skills/competencies of Council members include: leadership experience in at least one of the specified industries covered by the Council experience, or an understanding of, either or both governance and public administration (except for governance associates in development roles) a commitment to inclusion and addressing the needs of underserved learners a commitment to act with impartiality, honesty, integrity, and manaakitanga in the case of the employer representative, the support of employers in the specified industries; and in the case of the employee representative, the support of the Council of Trade Unions. To meet the obligations in our Order in Council, the successful candidate is required to have whakapapa Māori. Governance associate/s In addition, the Hanga-Aro-Rau Council is seeking to appoint associate governance member(s) too: these appointees will not have full voting rights like other Council members but will gain invaluable experience and knowledge from being part of a governance board. Skills/competencies for governance associate/s include: a commitment to inclusion and addressing the needs of underserved learners a commitment to act with impartiality, honesty, integrity, and manaakitanga. Preferred applicants will have a background in working for and with Māori – iwi, hapū and communities. Applicants of Māori descent (whakapapa Māori) are encouraged to apply. Location Anywhere in Aotearoa – meetings are held either in person or virtually. Term Two years for Council member One year for governance associates. Time commitment Council member: a minimum equivalent of two to three days per month, including attendance at Council meetings. Governance associates: a minimum equivalent of one and half days per month including attendance at Council meetings.
