Te Au Awenga

The Hanga‑Aro‑Rau Order in Council included a unique requirement to establish an Industry Stakeholder Group (ISG). This core group represented industry, including their w1orkforces, and is an essential part of our governance system.

The group was established in June 2022, and its primary purpose was to:

• provide guidance and feedback on our organisational strategic direction and performance (including endorsement of key organisational documents such as our Statement of Strategic Direction, Operational Plan, and Investment Advice to the Tertiary Education Commission)
• offer advice and guidance from an industry perspective
• evaluate the performance of our governing Council
• recruit and appoint future governing Council members.

The rōpū was independently chaired by Ngahiwi Tomoana (Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngāti Hawea, Ngāti Hori and Samoa).

Hanga-Aro-Rau and the ISG acknowledged the immense mahi of interim ISG Chair Matua Turi Ngatai (Ngaiterangi, Ngāti Ranginui) and Duane Mann from The Cause Collective, who were both instrumental in the establishment and early development phases of the ISG.
