First ISG appointments to Council

It is with great pleasure that we announce that both Renata (Ren) Hakiwai and Dr Troy Coyle have been reappointed to the Hanga-Aro-Rau Council by our Industry Stakeholder Group (ISG) and re-elected as Co-chairs by the Hanga-Aro-Rau Council.

These appointments mark the first time our ISG has appointed members to the Hanga-Aro-Rau governing Council.

The ISG was established as part of our Order in Council (OiC) and is an essential part of our governance eco-system, influencing and guiding the direction and performance of the Hanga-Aro-Rau Workforce Development Council. The ISG is also responsible for appointing new Council members.

Interim ISG chair Matua Turi Ngatai paid tribute to Ruth Cobb, ISG appointments committee chair, for her leadership which ensured a robust, independent, and considered appointment process. Matua Turi also acknowledged the many groups involved in coordinating and supporting this inaugural process.

Matua Turi was also pleased to see the quality of applicants who had put their names forward for the two positions available, saying that the high calibre was encouraging for the future of Hanga-Aro-Rau and our sectors. “It was great to see so many talented people wanting to join the mahi of Hanga-Aro-Rau as part of our Council,” Matua Turi said, adding that “it reflects very well on the esteem in which Hanga-Aro-Rau is held”.

Ruth Cobb said the committee’s five members unanimously endorsed the re-selection of Ren and Troy to the Council, with the full ISG also approving the recommendation to reappoint them.

“They were instrumental in establishing the ISG for Hanga-Aro-Rau that gives industry the chance to be fully involved and hold the Council accountable for their outcomes” Ruth noted, “Hanga-Aro-Rau is unique in this function, and it provides an aspect of confidence to the industries it represents that there is this level of accountability,”.

Hanga-Aro-Rau chief executive Phil Alexander-Crawford said that the re-appointment of Ren and Troy was a great decision for the organisation. “Both Ren and Troy have demonstrated their commitment to our mahi and their passion for making sure that the needs of our industries are met. We look forward to continuing this journey alongside them both.”

Alongside these appointments, the Hanga-Aro-Rau Council has re-elected Troy and Ren as Co-chairs by unanimous vote.
